Primary and Secondary Sources Comparison

Primary and secondary sources both provide information. A primary source is a personal account of an event. It introduces the writer’s experiences, thoughts, and feelings. The participant provides eyewitness details and solid facts about what they saw. Information may be imbalanced in different viewpoints, opinions, and knowledge.  Examples are diaries, autobiographies, letters, speeches, and interviews.  A secondary source is a secondhand account where the writer did not directly participate in the activities. It is based on a variety of viewpoints, and it should contain facts. The primary sources it is based on maybe poorly selected. It can reflect the opinions of the author. Examples are encyclopedias, biographies, history books, reference books, and most magazine articles.
